A young woman in a small town brings her Hollywood fantasies to life in an original stage play.
JAZMINE FARIES, a 32-year old woman with Down syndrome, is obsessed with soap operas, Barbie dolls, and Matthew McConaughey. For the past 5 summers, her family has performed her original stageplays for a small audience in their town of Iron River, Michigan. In this sixth season, we follow the creative process of writing, rehearsing, and performing the play. Along the way we see Jazmine’s personal struggle for independence, her yearning for a romantic partner, and how a single spark of creativity can spread joy throughout a community.
"Powerful, funny and heartfelt, Iron Family is an overwhelming emotional experience, ranking among the best films of 2022. Simply put, Iron Family is ironclad perfection."

Director Patrick Longstreth and Producer Anne Longstreth have a passion for storytelling that shines a light on unsung heroes. They recently earned two regional Emmys for long-form directing and editing on The Life of Bill Baggs, a biography about a little-known newspaper editor who changed the course of history in the 1960’s. Their first feature film, Iron Family, won the 2022 Slamdance Audience Award. Patrick has a background in editing and visual effects, serving as VFX Supervisor for a variety of TV shows like Adam Ruins Everything and independent films like the 2022 SXSW award-winning film I Love My Dad. Anne got her start in entertainment finance at big studios including Comedy Central, and on-set production accounting for feature films such as Disney’s remake of Lady and the Tramp (2019). Based in Savannah, GA, they are currently working on a historical documentary that was selected for The Better Angels Lavine Fellowship as part of the Ken Burns Prize for Film.
Producer Chad Faries has explored harsh realities and resilience of spirit in all its manifestations through his poetry and storytelling — from a warzone in the former Yugoslavia, to drug abuse treatment in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and in his creative non-fiction classroom at Savannah State University in Georgia. His sense of story and thirst for adventure bring new depth to the world of documentary filmmaking.
Editor Elizabeth Kaiser believes that truth really is stranger than fiction, which leads her to take many tiny pieces and weave them into a concise whole. She is a video editor, motion graphics designer, and producer based in coastal Georgia, but was born, raised, and will forever be a Northern Michigander at heart. Some of her award winning work includes “The Coral Keepers” (2019), “The Big Five Dive” (2018), "Run This Town" (2016), and “A Few Things About Cancer” (2016). Elizabeth is a member of Savannah Women in Film and Television (SWIFT) and DOC Savannah.
Musician Christine Fink is a musician living in Savannah, GA, by way of Alabama and Nebraska. After graduating with degrees in art and theatre, she has worked as a journalist, bartender, performer and a dash of everything in between. Her band High Up's debut album You Are Here was released in 2018. She and her husband Steve composed several original songs for the film.
